Bain & Company hosts a variety of industry and capability specific events. Since 2004 for instance, the “Strategist of the Year” award has been presented annually to the CEOs of major listed companies in Germany with sales in excess of a billion euro who have consistently pursued pioneering and sustainable strategies over an extended period of time. Winners are chosen in various categories dependent on company size.
The "Strategist of the Year" award evaluates sustained business success on the basis of objective and transparent data. In a multi-stage selection process, economic success is measured in comparison with the company’s competitors and its longer-term strategic orientation is assessed.
In contrast to many other business awards, winners are not chosen by the decision of a jury. The awards are presented solely on the basis of an extensive analysis of the three-year performance of the following indicators of profitable growth: The increase in sales and employee numbers, equity, surpluses, profitability and value added.
The "Strategist of the Year" award was initiated by Bain & Company, the business and financial medium Financial Times Deutschland and the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management private university.
